Go with God

Welcome to Day 24 of Journey to the Cross, a forty-day devotional leading to Easter. Today we look at going with God.

Luke 5:16 tells us that Jesus would often withdraw to desolate places to pray. Going out into the wilderness, far from civilization is a great way to get alone with God. If you have every been camping out in the wilderness, far away from others, you might have experienced something like that.

In the ancient world, people often spoke a word of blessing as they set off across desolate places like the desert or the ocean. Sailors setting off on a voyage would leave port with this word ringing in their ears: “Godspeed!” The term expressed the hope that God would go with the traveler to guide, protect, and prosper them along their journey. It has, sadly, become an antiquated term.

Jesus knew that His journey was taking Him to the cross, but He did not travel the path alone. He remained close to His Heavenly Father in regular, intimate prayer. He did not abandon His journey when it grew difficult. Rather, He went to His Father with His struggles and gave them to Him in prayer. Yet He always prayed for His Father’s will to be done.

Like Jesus, no believer is alone in their struggles. You can share them with your Heavenly Father in prayer. You can remind yourself that your Lord travelers right beside you across the expansive seas, deserts, mountains, and valleys of life. He is always with you, wherever you are. And that promise never expires or becomes antiquated. Wherever you path takes you today, “Godspeed!”

As you pray today, that the Lord that He gladly takes your burdens as you share them with Him in prayer. Then, tell Him with burdens are on your heart. Ask Him for guidance and pray His will be done.

Thank you for joining me for day 24. Come back tomorrow for our next devotion.
