Death to Death

Welcome to Day 29 of Journey to the Cross. Today we begin looking at the purpose of the journey.

John 17:3 says, “This is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” People who travel do so for a reason. Jesus had a clear purpose in mind as He journeyed to the cross. His purpose was to earn for you the gift of eternal life. Every step He took and every move He made brought him one step closer to fulling His purpose.

Seeing the Pacific Ocean, seeing Grandma, and simple relaxation can be reasons to take a trip. We traveled halfway across the continent to swim in the Pacific. We frequently travel drive a couple of hours to visit grandparents and parents. But usually when we take a vacation, it is to get away and relax.

Jesus traveled to the cross for the purpose of bringing sinners like you and me, who had been condemned to death, the free gift of eternal life in him. Jesus taught along the way, but that was not His primary purpose. He healed as He went, but His main goal was a greater healing than the physical healings He performed. Jesus fed the hungry, but again, this was not His primary goal.

Jesus came to bring life to us by conquering death by death. Every step He took brought Him closer to fulfilling the purpose of our salvation. How does realizing this change your life’s purpose?

As you pray today, say something like: “Purposeful Father, thank you for sending Your Son to fulfill Your purposes for me. Give me joy in living purposefully for you.”

Thank you for joining me for Day 29. Come back tomorrow as we continue.
